E-technology, encompassing digital and internet-based tools, plays a pivotal role in modernising agriculture, addressing numerous challenges and opening up new avenues for development.

E-technology in improving agricultural productivity:

  1. It facilitates precision farming, ensuring optimal resource utilisation and minimising environmental impact.
  2. Access to comprehensive information allows farmers to make informed decisions regarding crop selection, cultivation practices, and market strategies.
  3. It helps facilitate crop diversification, evaluate irrigation needs according to the crop and season and improve the accuracy of crop production estimates.
  4. Farmers gain direct access to markets and information, reducing reliance on intermediaries and minimising transaction costs
  5. Overcomes the limitations imposed by diverse agro-climatic zones in India, facilitating tailored agricultural practices and enabling access to information and markets across regions.
  6. E-technology fosters community involvement and collective action in agriculture, ensuring equitable participation across the sector. 
  7. Additionally, initiatives like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and Aadhar-linked services enhance system transparency and reduce corruption.
  8. E-Technology enables the monitoring of livestock health through body sensors and chips, identifying potential diseases early and preventing widespread infection within herds.
  9. E-Technology offers tools and platforms for e-training and demonstration, enhancing the skills and productive capacities of farmers.

 Steps taken by the government :

  1. National Agricultural Market (NAM): This unified market platform connects farmers with buyers across the country, ensuring fair prices and reducing wastage.
  2. e-National Agricultural Extension Services (e-NAAS): This portal provides farmers with expert advice, information on government schemes, and access to agricultural research.
  3. AgriStack: It aims to create a unified platform offering end-to-end services across the agricultural food value chain through technology-based interventions.
  4. Digital Agriculture Mission : This initiative aims to digitize the entire agriculture value chain, from farm to fork. The major components are AgriStack, Krishi Decision Support System (DSS), and Soil Profile Maps.The mission also aims to create a tech-based ecosystem, the Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES), which will provide accurate estimates of agricultural production.

By leveraging e-technology, the Indian government is empowering farmers to increase their productivity, improve their incomes, and contribute to the overall growth of the agricultural sector.
